Surprising Motorcycle Crashes People Survived Unscathed

BARNEY INJURY LAW

Have you ever witnessed someone get up and simply walk away unscathed from what should have been a deadly motorcycle accident?

No matter how cautious motorcycles riders are, they cannot control the drivers around them. Car drivers often fail to notice motorcycles in their vicinity, especially in their blind spots or when changing lanes.

Unfortunately, it does not take much for a motorcycle driver to get injured in an accident.

Motorcycle riders also risk much more serious injuries. Most cars have airbags, seatbelts, and numerous under safety mechanisms to protect both drivers and passengers.

However, motorcycles do not have any of these safety features. The only protection motorcycle riders have is their helmets, goggles, jackets, gloves, and the clothing they are wearing.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Virginia’s beautiful scenery and long-winding, mountainous roads can make for some of the best motorcycle riding in the United States.

In 2017, Virginia had 107 deaths resulting from motorcycle crashes, which is the highest in 10 years, according to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. This was almost a 50% increase from the previous year.

Virginia Beach was home to the highest concentration of fatal accidents in all of the State of Virginia.

Motorcyclists are approximately 28 times more susceptible to suffering from fatal accidents than the drivers of other vehicles. Although motorcycles only account for about 3% of registered vehicles, they are involved in 11% of all vehicle accidents.

While experienced motorcyclists often drive carefully because they know the risks, it is still difficult for riders to overcome other drivers’ propensities not to notice motorcycles.

Motorcyclists are also much more exposed to hazardous road and weather conditions.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2016, 5,286 motorcycle riders died in motor vehicle accidents. That is a 5.1% increase from 2015.

Examples of Riders Surviving Horrific Motorcycle Crashes

Despite all of the motorcycle crash related fatalities, it is not uncommon to go on YouTube and find videos of riders surviving the most dreadful accidents. For example, this crash was caught on a biker’s helmet camera.

As you can see, the biker was waiting at a stoplight. When the light turned green, a camaro t-boned the SUV in front of the motorcycle. Despite the impact and being catapulted from his bike, the rider managed to grab on to the SUV. Even more amazing the rider managed to walk away injury-free.

This YouTube video, shows a rider badly spinning out and rolling his motorcycle. However, he was wearing a Helite Airbag Protection device and walked away from the accident without the need of medical attention.

This video, shows a motorcyclist hitting a turning car and somersaulting in the air, only to get up and walk away.

In another YouTube video, the biker, who looks to be speeding, loses control and even slides under an SUV. Then, the biker miraculously gets up and walks away.

In this video, a biker involved in a police chase hit a car head-on, somersaulting several times in the air before slamming onto the pavement. Unbelievably, the rider quickly gets up and proceeds to continue running from the police.

The final video, shows a biker crash into a car that turned in front of him, only to quickly jump up on his feet.

The Most Common Motorcycle Accident Injuries

Injuries from motorcycle accidents range in severity from small scrapes to traumatic brain injury or even death. Minor injuries can often heal with minimal treatment; however, more severe injuries can leave crash victims in need of intensive medical supervision for life. The most frequently occurring motorcyclists’ injuries include the following:

Studies show that motorcycle drivers are at five times greater risk of suffering from crash related injuries than other drivers.

The Most Common Types of Motorcycle Accidents

A majority of motorcycle accidents are caused by another driver’s negligence. Drivers often cut in front of motorcyclists. Often motorcycle accidents result from the following:

Almost 50% of motorcycle crashes are caused when the motorcycle driver is going straight and another vehicle is making a left turn.

Additionally, motorcycle accidents are also caused by road debris, bad weather conditions, poor road maintenance and defective equipment.

Regrettably, even highly skilled motorcycle riders are often incapable anticipating other drivers’ actions. Even the most modest accident can be deadly for motorcycle riders.
